Backup SMS to Gmail on Android

android-logoThere are many applications available for Android devices in the Android Market, but not all are useful. One useful app that I found in the Market was SMS Backup.

SMS Backup is a free Android app that automatically backs up SMS messages from your Android phone to your Gmail account.

The usage is really simple. On your first start of the app, you will have to enter your Gmail account details and configure the app as per your liking (the default settings worked fine for me).

The first time you will have to press the Backup Now button and wait till all your SMS messages are up online and syned with your account. SMS messages will be stored in a separate, newly-created label – SMS. And they won’t conflict with your other emails in your Inbox. You can even mark the backed up messages on Gmail as read.

You need to have IMAP enabled in your Gmail preferences, which must be done through a computer. Now whenever you receive or you send a text message, this app will automatically transfer the text your Gmail account.

You can download this app for free from the Android Market on your Android phone. Or get the direct link download from here.
