Acer launches 5 phones, a clear shift in the bussiness

I recently noticed this news and took it by surprise that the Asian PC vendor Acer Inc of Taiwan on last Thursday launched five smart phones for the Indian market and announced it would be launching a total of nine models this year itself.

The smart handheld business group of Acer, which is the third largest vendor in the global PC market, launched its new line of smart handhelds in India as it wants to capture some territory of the immensly growing Indian mobile market. This represents a strategic move for the company which is now aspiring to become a significant player in the mobility market.

Samsung S800 Jet

Samsung S800 Jet Review and Specifications

Samsung launched the latest in a long line of mobile phones today, the Samsung Jet S8000, promising it to be faster and more powerful than previous efforts. At its heart is an 800 MHz processor, and the Jet also comes with WiFi and HSDPA high-speed downloads. There's a large 3.1" 800 x 480 pixel display, a 5 megapixel camera and GPS too.it is important to point out that the Jet isn't a smartphone. It runs the new TouchWiz 2.0 interface with a bespoke Samsung web browser called "Dolfin" which can have up to five pages open at once and comes with a built-in ad blocker. There's a multimedia player and email client, and the Samsung Jet can also integrate with corporate Microsoft Exchange servers. For most potential users, the feature set on the Jet is probably perfectly adequate, but it lacks the advantage of the iPhone's massive selection of applications.

The Samsung Jet S8000 can play back almost all major audio and video formats, including the ubiquitous MP3, AAC and Windows Media formats plus DivX movies. The Jet has a built-in FM radio and a standard 3.5mm audio socket. The Jet can manage to playback and record D1 video (at least 720 x 480 pixels) at 30 frames per second, which is pretty impressive. The Jet S8000 also has a video editor. All of this media can be stored on microSD cards of up to 16GB.

Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P Review and Specification

Last week we saw ASRock M3A780GXH/128M with AMD chipset. Today I'd like to introduce you to yet another motherboard with an AMD chipset. The GA-MA770T-UD3P uses Gigabyte's famed Ultra Durable 3 technology on this budget friendly AMD socket AM3 platform. This technology brings 2 oz copper PCB and further helps to reduce the system temperature and dramatically enhance the performance. Based on AMD 770 chipset, the GA-MA770T-UD3P supports all the 45nm AMD AM3 Phenom II series processors that feature DDR3 memory controllers and HyperTransport 3.0 technology. To top all that off the board also features Easy Energy Saver technology to help conserve power and be green friendly

The AMD 770 chipset does have some limitations though and the most obvious is that it lacks support for multi-GPU configurations as it sports just a single x16 PCI Express 2.0 slot for graphics

The glossy T90 is the latest in a line of fashion conscious Sony Cyber-shot touch screen compacts - coming after the T77 and T500. Measuring 13.9mm thick, highlights of the T90 include a 12.1 megapixel sensor, 35-140mm equivalent 4x zoom lens, large 3.0-inch touch-sensitive rear screen, Super SteadyShot optical image stabilisation, face and smile detection technology, ISO 3200 and intelligent scene recognition. Apple iPod Touch third gen could feature a digital camera

Rumours in the market have long been claiming that Apple is planning to add a camera to their iPod Touch model.

A new version of the iPod Touch is expected to arrive in September this year. And this version could indeed feature a camera just like iPhone.

The possibilities have somewhat increased with the arrival of a case from some Chinese company. The case is build for the iPod Touch and features a hole in the back where camera could be.

The company calls the case the “Anti-slip Silicone Skin Case for iPod Touch 3G 8GB 16GB”.

The appearance of this case on a Chinese website does not really ‘confirm’ that a camera would become a part of the next iPod Touch. But Apple does not to add some more value to the portable media player to make it worth the price.

Looking at the current model of iPhone 3GS and the prices, the second generation ipod Touch looks darn expensive.

Acer X960 Review

Earlier we have seen a short review about 5 latest smart phones from Acer . Today I'd like to discuss about one of them the X960. The Acer X960 doesn´t look bad at all, as a matter of fact, it´s pretty likeable. Not too much on the heavy side, it feels solid, yet comfy and using it with one hand is entirely possible. Its 2.8-inch 480x640 pixel screen is easy to tackle, due to its adequate response to touch, without being overly sensitive. Unfortunately, sunlight causes details to vanish on the spot, which renders the display virtually unusable in bright, outdoor areas.

Can Apple beat the too-expensive rap?

(CNET) — SAN FRANCISCO –The big knock on Apple — whether or not it’s always been accurate — is that its products are more expensive than most of its competitors.

Apple addresses its high-price reputation by dropping the costs of iPhones and Mac laptops.

But in the keynote speech Monday that opened Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, it became clear the company is tackling the price question head on.

The best example of this new attitude is the decision to keep the 8GB iPhone 3G, but sell it at $99. That was the most aggressive price move it made Monday.

Friday marks final signoff for analog TV service

NEW YORK - TV shows were replaced by the hiss of static in perhaps 1 million U.S. homes Friday as stations ended their analog broadcasts and abandoned the transmission technology in use since the days of Milton Berle, Sid Caesar and Howdy Doody.

The vast majority of households that rely on antennas for their TV signals were prepared for the shutdown, but many people remained vexed by the challenge of setting up digital reception.

Hundreds of people began lining up about 3 a.m. Friday outside the Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati, five hours before the agency began giving out 250 free digital converter boxes. The center had given all the converters away by 10:30 a.m., and many people were still in line.
