Unlock 05.12.01 Baseband for iPhone 3.1.3 Coming Soon

iPhone 3.1.3 firmware was released a while ago, which introduced a new 05.12.01 baseband for iPhone users.

People who accidentally updated their devices to the latest firmware using iTunes are now with a locked iPhone which couldn’t be used until unlocked.

The iPhone 3.1.3 exploit to unlock 05.12.01 baseband has been found by developers who have already been working with tools to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone.

A week ago, Sherif Hashim, an iPhone developer said about discovering the 05.12.01 Baseband iPhone 3.1.3 exploit which he will be using to release an unlock tool for iPhone 3.1.3. And oh yes, Sherif is the same guy whose iTunes account recently got blocked for working with stuff where Apple doesn’t want anyone to poke their nose.

@GeoHot also confirmed about discovering the exploit in his tweet a couple of days ago. All this shows, that the exploit is soon going to be released and the unlocking tools will be updated to support unlock iPhone 3.1.3 (3G/3GS) 05.12.01 baseband

Motorola Droid 2 will Launch on 23rd August with Android 2.2?

THere has been so much speculation around forMotorola’s Droid 2 smartphone. Dubbed to challenge the iPhone with its features and quality, the Droid 2 has created huge interest from fans and critics alike on how it is going to perform when put against the iPhone 4. With Verizon wireless backing the Droid 2 as its official carrier, the competition is just going to get that little bit harder due to AT&T having the iPhone 4 supported.

News is over the web that Motorola Droid 2 will be launched by Verizon Wireless on August 23, 2010 and the big news is that it is going to haveAndroid 2.2 as its operating system. Currently no smartphone is shipping withAndroid 2.2 and the Droid 2 will be the first one to have Android 2.2 out of the box. It is also speculated that an August release date is chosen for the sole reason so as to ensure that it ships with Android 2.2 operating system. The original Droid is expected to see Android 2.2 in late July and the Droid X will get it in August. Both Droid X and Droid 2 have identical hardware specifications and the software running on both the devices will be the same as well come August.

Verizon Wireless hasn’t announced any official pricing details for the Droid 2, but it is expected that it will ship at $199 with a 2 year contract

Samsung and Sprint Announces Samsung Epic 4G

Samsung has been in the limelight for some time now with their new lineup of smartphones. First the Galaxy S 9000 was announced a few weeks back with Samsung aiming to crack the smartphone market share in its favor. The news today from Samsung is that they’re teaming up with Sprint for another Galaxy S smartphone device. The phone is named Epic 4G.

This smartphone features a 4-inch touchscreen, Samsung Hummingbird processor, a fully featured QWERTY keyboard and 5-megapixel 720p HD capable camera. Equipped with 16GB microSD flash memory (expandable upto 32GB), 1GB ROM and 512MB RAM along with a 1500maH battery, the phone will run on Google’s Android 2.1 operating systemalong with Touch Viz 3.0. Not much of a difference from the Galaxy S device announced earlier, although, Sprint is stressing that Android 2.2 will be made available on phone ‘in the near future’. The Epic 4G will also have a front facing VGA camera for video calls.

The big difference which comes with this new smartphone is that it will be equipped to work on Sprint’s rapidly expanding 4G network. Although no exact price and availability details are available yet, keep your fingers crossed as Samsung and Sprint will be announcing this very, very soon!

Nokia N9 Leaked Into the Wild

NOkia has stayed as the front runner in thesmartphone market with its N-xx series of smartphones. The N-9x series has been the companies’ flagship line of high-end smartphones which feature high-tech specs, shiny devices and lots of digits on the price tag. Word is out about Nokia’s newest QWERTYkeyboard enabled smartphone.

And it doesn’t end there; we’ve got a picture of this baby for you as well:

clip_image001

Probably to be named as N-98 or N8 plus QWERTY, call it whatever you like but this smartphone has an 8 megapixel camera riding on its back along with 850/1900 3G support. Also rumored is the “ridiculous screen clarity” with this smartphone. Has Nokia surpassed Apple’s Retina display with this thing? Not quite sure yet. From the picture above, it seems this device also runs on Symbian operating system, despite Nokia’s claims that they won’t be using Symbian as the default operating system for their next N-9x series smartphones. This is surely an ambiguity which will be resolved in the few coming days.

To end, take a look at the “CO” label at the upper left corner of this device and ponder if it’s a member of any upcoming series by Nokia. Happy thinking.

Pre-Order Droid X at Best Buy

Motorola’s flagship smartphone, the Droid X is now available for pre-ordering at BestBuy stores. TheAndroid running smartphone will be available for sale July 15, 2010 but users can get a nick of satisfaction by pre-ordering it at Best Buy. The best part about the pre-order deal is that users have to pay nothing in while pre-ordering and are guaranteed to receive their smartphone once it is made available (unlike the iPhone 4, where several users had their pre-orders cancelled).

clip_image002

Motorola’s Droid X is exclusive for Verizon Wireless carrier and one has to cut through a Verizon deal to get their hands on the Droid X. “With the buzz we’ve seen around the Android platform, Best Buy is confident that consumers will be thrilled about the Verizon DROID X by Motorola pre-sale,” said Scott Anderson, senior director of merchandising at Best Buy Mobile. “It has been a great summer for smartphones with the HTC EVO and iPhone 4 launches, and the addition of the DROID X adds another strong option for our customers to consider.”
