S60 Hero Theme for Nokia E72

I don’t really share Nokia themes on this blog, but this one is a must-see for every Nokia S60 user. Tehkseven, the popular mobile theme designer, has released S60 Hero, HTC Hero theme for Nokia E72 and E71.

This theme is available for free download and can be downloaded in thre flavours, for standard S60 3rd Edition FP1/FP2 devices, E-series and S60 5th Edition.

This theme features new icons for most of the third-party apps that we use. If you’re a Nokia S60 user, then I’d recommend you give this theme a try.

Even though I own a HTC Hero myself, but I found this theme better on my Nokia phones.

Samsung and Sprint Announces Samsung Epic 4G

Samsung has been in the limelight for some time now with their new lineup of smartphones. First the Galaxy S 9000 was announced a few weeks back with Samsung aiming to crack the smartphone market share in its favor. The news today from Samsung is that they’re teaming up with Sprint for another Galaxy S smartphone device. The phone is named Epic 4G.

This smartphone features a 4-inch touchscreen, Samsung Hummingbird processor, a fully featured QWERTY keyboard and 5-megapixel 720p HD capable camera. Equipped with 16GB microSD flash memory (expandable upto 32GB), 1GB ROM and 512MB RAM along with a 1500maH battery, the phone will run on Google’s Android 2.1 operating systemalong with Touch Viz 3.0. Not much of a difference from the Galaxy S device announced earlier, although, Sprint is stressing that Android 2.2 will be made available on phone ‘in the near future’. The Epic 4G will also have a front facing VGA camera for video calls.

The big difference which comes with this new smartphone is that it will be equipped to work on Sprint’s rapidly expanding 4G network. Although no exact price and availability details are available yet, keep your fingers crossed as Samsung and Sprint will be announcing this very, very soon!

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Coming on January 18th?

We just got the announcement of Google Nexus One confirmed release date and pricing. Nexus One is releasing on January 5, 2010 for just $199.

Sony Ericsson is yet to make an official announcement on when the XPERIA X10 will be out in the stores, but some unconfirmed sources suggest it will be out on January 18.

We all knew XPERIA X10 was scheduled for a Q1 2010 (February) release, but Play.com has the phone available for pre-order and says it is due release on January 18?

There is a possibility of XPERIA X10 releasing because Google Nexus One is coming out 5th January 2010.

Install Android on Windows Mobile Phone

I’m sure all those who own a HTC Windows Mobile phone like the Diamond, Touch Pro etc would definitely want to give Android a try.

Now thanks to a very simple tutorial posted by Kong Technology, HTC Windows Mobile users can try out Android on their devices without actually replacing WinMo.

How to Run Android on Windows Mobile Phone

To get Android running on your phone, just follow the simple steps below:

1. First step is to visit this website and locate the latest Android package for your phone. These Android packages have been modified for HTC WinMo phones.

2. Now download the latest version of HaRET which is the Windows Mobile application that allows you to boot into Android.

3. Unzip everything from the Android package & HaRET into the root of your external storage. For the Diamond, you need to unzip into its internal storage root.

4. Next step is to get the correct startup.txt file. Visit here to get it.

5. Once all the above steps are completed, start HaRET from inside Windows Mobile. Your phone should reboot directly into Android!

Data connection might not work on this version of Android on HTC WinMo phones, but if you still wan tto give it a try, follow this guide.

Sprint Hero Firmware 1.56.651.2 Update

Sprint has released the first over-the-air firmware update for HTC Hero. Sprint Hero Firmware 1.56.651.2 update is now available for download for Sprint users.

This update brings several issues that caused battery to drain out and fixes several other minor issues. You can initiate the update from the Settings > About Phone > System updates > Firmware update.

HTC Hero Software Enhancement SW 1.56.651.2 provides feature updates and enhancements to address the following:

• Improvement to camera picture quality
• DST (Daylight Savings Time) issue addressed
• Unable to receive SMS due to full memory
• Memory leak when Bluetooth is in connecting state
• 3.5mm mono when not using headset with mic
• Dialer application causing excess battery draw
• Dedicated Mute/Speaker buttons have been added to the Talk screen

Exclusive: BlackBerry 9800 for AT&T fully exposed!

We've just been sent a mother lode of shots of RIM's upcoming BlackBerry 9800 -- a phone whose market name is still unknown -- but whether it's called the Bold, the Torch, or something else altogether, we think we're looking at near-final hardware here. The software is identified as version 0.9, but you can clearly tell from the UI that it's running BlackBerry 6 with an ever-so-slightly refined look and subtle 3D elements missing from prior releases. This particular phone is AT&T-branded, and it starts up with a carrier logo screen that proudly proclaims the 9800 a world phone -- sure enough, the About screen shows support for WCDMA bands I, II, V, and VI, which means you'll be able to use the phone for 3G service in Japan and most of Europe. Generally speaking, BlackBerrys haven't been known to be the prettiest things around (with the possible exception of the Curve 8900), but we'll admit -- we're digging this. It’s official: Nokia N8 will be the last Symbian Nseries handset. MeeGo is the future

Yesterday, when hearing about Nokia’s alleged plans to stop using Symbian in its Nseries smartphones, we were a bit skeptical. It turns out that we shouldn’t have been.

Nokia has confirmed to Reuters that the N8 will, indeed, be the last Nseries device to run Symbian. All future Nseries devices (most likely starting with the rumored Nokia N9) will use MeeGo – the new software platform developed by the Finnish company in collaboration with Intel.

Symbian^3, Symbian^4 and future versions will still be used on Xseries, Eseries and some Cseries devices.

In the last few years, Symbian has lost market share to Apple, BlackBerry, and – more recently – Android. Of course, the global smartphone market is growing at fast paces, so there’s room for lots of platforms.

Like Android, MeeGo is based on Linux, and since Nokia bets on it for its upcoming Nseries smartphones (most, if not all of which will be high-end), we should expect it to offer a great user experience.

The first Nokia MeeGo smartphones should be out in late 2010 / early 2011. I hope they won’t disappoint.

Keeping it real fake: ePhone won’t shatter when you drop it, might melt in the sun

We're guessing that there won't be many tech sites lineblogging outside the Shenzhen KIRF stalls when the ePhone 4GS finally gets a release date. And it's a shame, really: for knock-off fanatics like ourselves, this thing could be in the big leagues, right up there with the iorgane (that's pronounced "i-orange," by the way). Don't let the industrial design fool you -- unlike the real deal, this thing is all plastic, right up to that silver band wrapping 'round the edges. The rear of the unit boasts the Apple logo and 16GB, and while the first designation is definitely inaccurate, we harbor serious doubts about the latter. But what do you expect for $85? Yes, yes, we know you'd rather get Eclair or Froyo -- but sometimes you've got to be happy with what you've got, and this is one of those times. As far as we can tell, Samsung hasn't budged on its commitment to sunset the Behold II's upgrade path with Donut, but at least 1.6 is finally trickling into the hands of owners this week via a rolling over-the-air update that should wrap up on the 25th. There are a few bug fixes in the mix, too -- so unless you've got a rooted Behold II running 2.2 already, you probably want in on this action. Or... you know, dump this inadequately-supported piece for something running 2.1 out of the box.

HP buys Melodeo, brings Nutsie music streaming service into the fold

Well, it looks like HP's year of acquisitions isn't showing any signs of letting up just yet -- it's now reportedly bought Melodeo, the parent company of the Nutsie music streaming service, for between $30 and $35 million. While the service doesn't exactly have the name recognition of the now Apple-owned Lala, Nutsie's mobile applications (for iPhone, Android and Blackberry) have reportedly been downloaded more than two million times, and the company already has partnerships with a range of carriers and cellphone companies including Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint. As TechCrunch reports, however, what might be most interesting is what the company has in store for Nutsie 3.0 -- it will apparently let you copy your entire iTunes library to the cloud and access any song on demand (it currently offers a more limited service that only offers a shuffle mode). We'll let you take the Palm / WebOS speculation from there.

Leaked Telstra roadmap points to October Windows Phone 7 launch, HTC Mozart device

Microsoft still hasn't gotten any more specific than "holiday 2010" for a Windows Phone 7 launch date, but it looks like we may now have a bit more specificity courtesy of Australian carrier Telstra. According to a leaked snippet from a purportedly authentic Telstra roadmap, the hereto unheard of Windows Phone 7-based HTC Mozart will be launching sometime in October -- presumably coinciding with the launch of Windows Phone 7 itself. As you may be able to tell, however, the phone pictured is actually a mockup of an HTC Desire, but none other than Conflipper says that the Mozart is indeed a real device and, incidentally, headed to T-Mobile US as well.

Altec Lansing serves up angular Octiv Mini iPod / iPhone sound system

We know -- you need another iPod sound system about as bad as you need another mortgage, but why leave any one room lacking, right? Altec Lansing has cranked out a rather unorthodox looking device this fine evening, certified to play nice with iPhone and iPod and deliver soothing jazz to whatever ears are fortunate enough to get close. The Octiv Mini (M102; $59.95) is yet another iPod / iPhone alarm clock, though this one ships with the Alarm Rock app in order to customize one's wake-up tunes from their bedside. Full specs should be popping up in that source link momentarily, and it'll ship to the last five remaining Americans who actually need one of these type devices in July.

Android 2.2 Froyo Update for HTC Desire Coming in 2 Weeks

After Google Nexus One, HTC Desire will be getting the Android 2.2 Froyo Update in almost 2 weeks, according to HTC support. A user on XDA Developers forum received an email from HTC Support which confirmed that the new 2.2 Froyo update for HTC Desire will be released in 2 weeks and will fix many issues that were present in the previous firmware. It will also update flash player and will resolve any issues experienced by users when trying to work with Flash content.

However, if you can’t wait for the official Android 2.2 Froyo update, you can install the custom Android 2.2 Froyo ROM on you HTC Desire. Otherwise, you can wait for the official Android 2.2 Froyo which will be released in 2 weeks time.

Here is the email received by the XDA forum member,

Samsung Galaxy S Pro specs leak out?

Can't confirm these ourselves, but if Android Central's sources are to be believed, these Samsung Galaxy S Pro specs are mighty impressive. Here's what we're looking at: a Sammy-borne 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, a Super AMOLED screen that may or may not be the same 4-inch, 800 x 480 window on the Galaxy S, a strong QWERTY slider with raised keys, front-facing VGA camera, 5 megapixel back camera with 720p video recording capabilities, WiMAX support, and Android 2.1 with some TouchWiz 3.0 customizations. As for qualms, the source does drop "plastic-y" a couple times in a none-too-flattering light. Still, for those who find a lack of physical keys a dealbreaker for the EVO 4G, this might end up being a proper alternate. We'll have to wait and see -- not too long, right Sammy?

Nokia C7, Nokia X7, Nokia E7, Nokia N9 – Coming Soon?

Nokia built a house drawing showing their this year’s phone releases, and all is good, except for the few leaks and new models that haven’t been released yet!

Ofcourse, I’m talking about the Nokia C7, Nokia X7, Nokia E7 and Nokia N9 that you can see in the image above. We’ve seen the others, but what about these? Are they going to be released this year? Or slated for 2011?

For now, all we have is a leaked Nokia document revealing these handset models which we are sure to see sometime soon in the near future! And oh, one phone I did miss. The Nokia S series chimney! Huh?

HTC Droid Incredible Root is Now Possible

hTC Droid Incredible rooted. Yes, the phone which we all thought won’t get easily rooted and was one of HTC’s finest smartphones was finally rooted today.

The procedure to root HTC Droid Incredible is not easy and is recommended only for power users, but yes, atleast you can root Droid Incredible now!

Before this goes nuts. Yes, we got two phone’s rooted. I will update here if we find a way to make it likely and/or with more details. But suffice to say, at the moment its not very repeatable. We are working on many methods still, but this will be useful in many ways.

Nokia E73 Review

Nokia success is no secret and we all know what a successful phone that was from Nokia. Even the E71-upgraded version, the Nokia E72, is still beats all the other new Nokia phones available right now.

Nokia E73 Mode is coming to T-Mobile, which is a “warmed-over E71″ according to Engadget’s review. It is a reworked version of E72 with T-Mobile branding and adds support for 3G on T-Mobile’s AWS bands.
