iPhone OS 4.0 Multitasking Video

We have already seen what Apple has to offer in the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0. My favourite feature in the iPhone OS 4.0 is multitasking! That is one feature I can’t live without in a smartphone and that is what might make me move to an iPhone when the next-gen iPhone comes later this year.

iPhone OS 4.0 beta (8A230m) firmware is already available for download for developers now.

Here’s a quick video I found on YouTube which demonstrates the multitasking feature of the iPhone OS 4.0 on an iPhone 3GS.

How to Install iPhone 4.0 Beta Firmware without UDID

In order to try out the new iPhone 4.0 beta, you need to have a developer’s account on Apple in order to install and try out the latest beta OS from Apple for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. But today I’m going to share how you can install iPhone 4.0 beta without UDID registration.

iPhone OS 4.0 beta was released in a developer’s preview event a couple of days ago which brings over 100 new features to the iPhone OS with multitasking being the biggest one!

How to Install iPhone 4.0 Beta Firmware without UDID

Yes, it’s possible! iH8sn0w has shown a way how you can activate and install iPhone OS 4.0 beta firmware without UDID registration on your device. Simply follow the steps below to give it a try:

  1. Decrypt your firmware files and get the rootfs.dmg file.
  2. Open the rootfs.dmg file within the IPSW file.
  3. Then navigate to System/Library/CoreServices and copy over SystemVersion.plist
  4. Now open SystemVersion.plist
  5. Remove the following two lines from it
    ReleaseType
    Beta
  6. Add it back into the rootfs.dmg file, overwriting the old SystemVersion.plist.
  7. Now restore the new IPSW file to your device.

Opera Mini for iPhone Available in App Store

Apera Mini for iPhone has finally been approved by Apple and is now available for download in the App Store. First Opera Mini for Android, and now finally the iPhone!

Opera has gone a great deal to get Opera Mini approved for the iPhone and iPod Touch users. It was submitted to Apple back in March, but none of us had expected Apple to approve it.

This is what the Opera CEO has to say in the press-release:

“We are delighted to offer iPhone and iPod touch users a great browsing experience with the Opera Mini App,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “This app is another step toward Opera’s goal of bringing the Web to more people in more places.”

I have just installed mine ad have been playing with the browser, and no doubt it’s the fastest browser available right now! Page rendering is way better than on the Android version of Opera Mini. You may also like to check out our Opera Mini for Android review!

For now, Opera Mini is only available for iPhone and iPod Touch. May be sometime later, Opera will release an iPad HD version too!

The announcement was just made about the iPhone 4.0 OS “sneak peak” event where Apple will be unveiling the next OS for the iPhone.

Like every year, several tech media blogs will be covering the event with live keynote blogging and we might as well get to see live video streaming too, but we have never seen that yet before.

Here are the links I have found so far of the blogs that have confirmed about covering the event live.

iPhone 4.1 and iPhone 4.0.1 Found in Developer’s Analytics

iPhone 4.1 and iPhone 4.0.1 OS bits have been found in the Developer’s Analytics by PixelCUBE Studios. Just yesterday, Apple announced the preview event for the iPhone 4.0 OS for April 8th (at 10AM).

PixelCUBE Studios currently holds the #1 spot on iTunes’ list of free iPhone app downloads with their free app, The Impossible Test.

They noticed iPhone 4.1 and iPhone 4.0.1 in their usage stats and later tipped it to Engadget about it. The screenshot above shows that there are actually three versions of the iPhone 4.0 OS running on different devices i.e iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad.

For now, we only know that the new iphone 4.0 OS is going to be soon unveiled on Thursday and iPhone 4.1 and iPhone 4.0.1 could be the future updates the new OS might receive.

iPhone OS 4.0 Introduces Multitasking

One of the main concerns of all the iPhone users was lack of multitasking in the device.

But they don’t have to worry anymore as Apple has just announced that iPhone OS 4.0 will have multitasking support, in the iPhone OS 4.0 event, which is currently going on. Catch the event live!

This means that now you can run different third party applications simultaneously. Jobs even gave a quick preview of how the multitasking feature will work. He opened the browser and switched back to Mail application by pressing the home button twice. He checked his mail and later opened the browser where the site was fully loaded.

This will be one of the best days for all the iPhone users who were waiting for this feature to be launched.

The event is over, and Apple has just released the iPhone OS 4.0 beta firmware for developers and this OS is available for iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 2G and iPod Touch 3G. OS 4.0 will be released for the iPad this Fall.

iPhone OS 4.0 Features Roundup

Apple just got over with introducing some exciting new features in the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 which will be coming out in summer for the iPhone and iPod Touch users and in fall for the iPad users.

Over 100 new features have been added in iPhone OS 4.0, and the seven top features from them are: multitasking, folders, improved Mail, iBooks, enterprise stuff, Game Center and iAd.

iPhone OS 4.0 Features

So let’s begin the tour of the top features added in the iPhone 4.0 firmware!

Multitasking

multitasking

One of the most anticipated features was multi-tasking, which allows you to run multiple third party apps simultaneously. However, the feature of multi-tasking will be introduced for iPhone 3GS and 3rd generation iPod Touch. The major problem related to multi-tasking was with the battery life but they announced a fix for that as well. It may consume more battery but it will not be that much as they have distilled down the services that the apps need to multitask in the background.

Folders

Next we have is Folders! Now you can manage all you applications and copy them in different folders as you like. They don’t have to be on you homescreen e.g you can copy all your games in one folder. You can do that by dragging one application over the other which will create the new folder containing those two applications. The folder is named automatically based on the category of the apps that were dragged. In the same way you can create as many folders as you like.

folders

If you want to open the folder, just tap on it and it will open the folder containing all the apps you have pasted in that specific folder.

Improved Mail

The next thing is the improved Mail app in which you can have multiple email account in a unified inbox, so you don’t have to switch between different inboxes for different accounts. This is not it; you can even have more than one exchange account as well in your Mail app.

Game Center

One of the most exciting features introduced is the Game center which contains more than 50k games and entertainment titles. They also introduced a social gaming network known as MatchMaking in which users will be able to find random people to play with depending on the multiplayer games installed in your phone. This will be available for all users later this year.

iAd

As we all knew from before, Apple planned to release a mobile advertising network, iAd. Developers will now be able to put advertisements in the apps that will allow them to generate some revenue.

mobile-advertising

iBooks

Other than that, the new iPhone OS 4.0 will be equipped with iBooks, same as the iPad. You will be able to read ebooks on your iPhone. But you do have to buy the book first and then you can read it anywhere.

ibooks

Enterprise Features

Last but not the least was the Enterprise features. It included better data protection, encrypts email and attachments. There will be APIs available so developers can encrypt stuff inside their own apps and mobile device management.

enterprise

Apple introduced some handy features, most of them which were lacking in the iPhone. Now, the last thing which everyone is waiting for is iPhone 4G/HD.

iPhone 4G Unboxing Photos Leaked

iPhone 4G ‘leaked’ photos have once again started popping up, and ofcourse, they are fake (or may be not?) by the looks of them.

This time, the leaked photos are not just of the iPhone device, but also includes unboxing, accessories, a dock etc.

The first glance at these photos tell you they are fake because Steve Jobs isn’t that dumb to call the next-generation iPhone as the iPhone 4G (what the Internet world call it as).
